i have known the B family for nearly nine years now. over those nine years, i have watched them emerge from one of the most significantly devastating experiences one can endure — the death of their son. of course i was honored when they asked me to capture their beautiful family.
each time i am approached to document a family, the most important element for me as a photographer, is to tell their story. working with the B family, i knew it was important for them to incorporate their son into the story. they chose to journey through the park, significant to them for many reasons, to the beach and set off a paper lantern in honor and remembrance of their son. i found it profoundly fitting that the day was foggy and grey.
thank you B family for allowing me to witness you on this day. finding all the love you hold between you, knowing how fleeting moments in time can be, holding on to each thread of grace and light. you are amazing. i am certain mercer walks this path beside you, every single step of the way as i see him in each of you.
